History
- Initiated under royal charter and the first students accepted in 1964. Lancaster is now one of only six collegiate universities in England.
Location and transport
- Easy access to Manchester and Liverpool to the south, and the Lake District just to the north.
- Buses leave the station in town every 5 minutes on weekdays for the university.

Course flexibility

- RAE (2001) places Lancaster's Management School equal first in the UK for research quality. It is one of only two UK business schools (the other is London Business School) to have been rated with the highest score for research quality continuously for nearly 20 years. Lancaster's excellence at research was further supported in a nationwide survey of successful research applications from UK universities. Lancaster came first in the UK, beating Oxford and Cambridge and 36 other research-led universities.

- Lancaster's Management School is typically ranked in the UK's top four and among the world's highly ranked management and business schools. It is the only UK business school to be so highly ranked across all major activities (MBA and Masters, Undergraduate, PhD, Research and Executive Education). On this evidence Lancaster claims to be the leading full-spectrum business or management school in the UK.

Students’ Union
- Works differently from most universities in that the Students’ Union is an administrative building with social events more spread out. For more details, visit the website.
- As well as the union nightclub in Lancaster, nine colleges on campus have their own bars, facilities and social spaces.
Sport
- Lancaster is in the first quartile of UK universities in the BUSA national rankings.
- Each of the nine colleges have approximately 26 sports teams.

Recent/prospective new builds
- Postgraduate Statistics Centre was opened in February 2008, with the aim of achieving excellence in teaching in statistics to those in the department and across the university.
- County Town Houses (new-build student residences) completed in 2007. They were conceived and designed to incorporate high levels of environmental performance, minimal emissions and excellent user information and control to provide a sustainable and comfortable living environment. The development has achieved a BREEAM Excellent status grading.
- Sports Centre is due for completion in early 2010. The scheme plans to deliver 6000 square metres of space providing an all-new centre with facilities for wet and dry sports.
