History
- Founded 1888 as Dundee Technical Institute.
- Described by the Scottish Office in 1902 as one of the nation's 'industrial universities'.
- Granted the right to use the formal title of University of Abertay Dundee in 1994.
Location and Transport
- Based in the heart of Dundee, with all buildings on a compact city centre campus.
- Bus and mainline train stations within ten minutes' walk, offering services to all major cities in Scotland and beyond.
- Airport within 10 minutes' drive, offering flights to London, Belfast and Birmingham.

- There are no variable tuition fees in Scotland. Fees for 2010–11 have not yet been confirmed. If you are a Scottish-domiciled first degree student you are eligible for your tuition fees to be covered by the Scottish Government. Scottish students should apply to the SAAS to cover this cost. Students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland should apply for a fee loan to Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, and Student Finance Northern Ireland as appropriate. Students from elsewhere in the EU should contact the SAAS.
- Tuition fees for non-Scottish domiciled students for 2009–10 have yet to be confirmed but are expected to be £1,820 a year (£2,895 for medicine).
- The RUK Bursary has been introduced for students normally resident in England, Wales or Northern Ireland only, studying at a Scottish university, who would otherwise have been eligible for a £319 national minimum bursary (i.e. in receipt of full HEMG) had they studied at a university in the rest of the UK. The RUK Bursary is currently worth around £310.

- Abertay is divided into four schools: Contemporary Sciences, Computing & Creative Technologies, Dundee Business School, and Social & Health Sciences.
- Strengths include Environmental Science, Computer Games Technology, Computer Arts, Digital Entertainment and Smart Technologies, Psychology and Forensic Sciences, Food/Health/Nutrition, Sports Science, Business and Management.
Student facilities, including Library and Computing
- New library completed 1998 with 600 workstations.
- A further 600+ elsewhere on campus, making a total of 1200 workstations for a student population of 5000 – one of the best ratios in the UK.
- New Student Centre completed 2005, incorporating two bars, restaurant, theatre/cinema, art gallery/coffee shop, bookshop and nightclub.
