History
  • The University received its Royal Charter in 1966. Its Pharmacy and Pharmacology department is celebrating its centenary in 2007.
  • In 1976 the university awarded the first sports scholarship in the UK and in 1995 hosted the European Youth Olympics.
  • In 1996 the Library and Learning Centre became the first 24-hour university library in England.
Location and Transport
  • The Claverton Campus is 1 mile from the centre of the city of Bath, a World Heritage Site.
  • The campus buildings are set in landscaped grounds, alongside a wide range of convenient on-site facilities.
  • A frequent bus service runs from campus to the city, from where there are regular transport links to London and Bristol.

  • An international reputation for research excellence. The research portfolio is valued at nearly £90 million.
  • Three of the university’s departments were awarded the highest 5* rating in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise; a further six had a 5 rating.

  • The £25-million Sports Training Village was completed in 2004.
  • Facilities include a 50m swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, athletics tracks, astroturf pitches, and a judo dojo.

  • The university has recently launched a £50-million investment programme on campus which will enhance teaching, research and social space.
  • A new development of 355 en-suite study bedrooms was scheduled for completion during 2008.
Availability of part-time work
  • A wide range of part-time work opportunities include web design, administration, sports roles, marketing and hospitality.
  • Last year, the university’s JobLink found employment on campus for 2,346 students and off campus for 1,164 students.
