History
  • Bucks New University is firmly established as the principal provider of university education in Buckinghamshire
  • Awarded full university status in 2008
  • Currently in the process of consolidating its three sites into one all purpose university campus 
Location and Transport
  • Situated approximately half way between London and Oxford, High Wycombe is the second largest town in Buckinghamshire.
  • Bucks is currently made up of three campuses, two in High Wycombe and one in Chalfont St Giles.
  • Easy access to London – just half an hour by road and rail from London (Marylebone).         
Accommodation
  • The university has approximately 1,100 single study bedrooms in self-catering halls of residence spread across two sites.
  • Cost of self-catering halls of residence ranges between £60–£80 per week, fully inclusive.
  • Bucks has an Accommodation Service which aims to find all new students suitable residency in university managed accommodation, through its Head Tenancy Scheme.

Entry standards

  • Most courses require a UCAS points tariff of between 180 and 239.
  • Exceptions are Law and Psychology courses that require a points score of 240 or equivalent.

In receipt of full Maintenance Grant £500
Tuition fees (2009): £3,225

  • £500 Bucks bursaries for all students. These bursaries will be universally available and will be promoted widely as part of Bucks' strategy to encourage the widest possible range of applicants.
  • £300 Bucks scholarships. These scholarships will be targeted at new students enrolling at the university from schools and colleges with which Bucks has developed a formal strategic relationship.

    • Bucks New University offers programmes that lead to the award of postgraduate research degrees at Brunel University.
    • The university, as an award-granting body under the Royal Charter, has taken steps to assure the quality of its programmes leading to its qualifications.
    • Courses are overseen by staff with a high level of expertise gained through their research activity, connections with industry, or professional experience.

    Students' Union
    • Bucks Students’ Union is very active and plays an important aspect of life at the university.
    • Clubs, societies, bars and bands are all part and parcel of the student experience, but the union also acts as a key representation body.
    • The union offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, as diverse as museum trips to pot holing – all free to students and accessible to all.

    Sport
    • Bucks students can play nearly 30 different sports at a competitive level without any charge. We pay for kit, match fees, get students to matches, and pay for coaches for teams so that sport can be played for free
    • Teams from Bucks compete in fixtures organised by either The Southern England Students' Sport Association or British Universities & Colleges Sport.
    • The Centre for Exercise, Health & Performance is equipped with all the latest equipment and can be used by all students – from the elite athlete to the more infrequent player.

    Recent/prospective new builds
    • Bucks is completely redeveloping its High Wycombe Campus, constructing several substantial buildings and refurbishing other buildings with brand new state-of-the-art facilities.
    • Phase One of this project is costing £60 million, with students joining in 2009 able to benefit from these exciting schemes.
    • By this time we hope that all courses (with the exception of Nursing) will be delivered on one purpose built campus.
