    History
    • The University of Buckingham admitted its first students in 1976 and now has 1010 students from over 80 different countries.
    • It is unique amongst British universities, receiving no state funding and using its independence to pioneer a distinctive approach to higher education.
    • It offers traditional three year degrees in two years providing small-group Oxbridge-style teaching.

    Course Flexibility
    • Degree programmes may be structured as i) major/minor, ii) joint honours, iii) combined honours, and iv) single honours, offering an unusual degree of flexibility.
    • Although degree programmes are typically 2-year, 8-term programmes, some subjects, e.g. Economics, are available as a 3-year programme, with September entry.
    • Honours degrees are completed in two years.

    • Buckingham has come top in the UK National Student Survey (NSS) in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
    Research standards 

    • In 2006 significant grants and research contracts were secured for metabolic research (diabetes and obesity), and research in applied computing, education policy, and law.
    • Research-generated income represented almost 10% of the university's turnover last year.

    Students' Union
    • Students' Union Executive serves a six-month term of office with elections held in March and August. 
    • Affiliated to the Students' Union are several societies, including the Law Society, Christian Union, Islamic Society, Newspaper Society, plus cultural societies. 
    • The Union organizes weekly events – quizzes, live music nights and themed parties. Annually they host the Graduation Ball, Rag Week and the annual Duck Race.

    Sport
    • The annual Chancellor's Cup is contested between the University's Schools. There are regular team and individual competitions.
    • Classes include Pilates, kick boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi, tennis, golf and yoga.
