History

• The institution can trace its origins back to 1851 with various different colleges.
• In 1992, the University of Derby in its present form was founded.

Location and Transport

• Derby is a thriving city with loads going on, and it's the safest city in the East Midlands. The campus is on the outskirts of the city, and all the halls of residence are between the campus and the city centre, so you'll be living within easy walking distance of both.
• The Derby Campus is made up of the Kedleston Road, Britannia Mill and Markeaton Street sites. They are all very close together, so you can easily walk between them. And they are linked by a free shuttle bus too.
• At Kedleston Road, you will find a number of shops including a clothes shop, newsagent, NatWest bank, Waterstone's bookshop, and various cafes.
• Buxton is a beautiful, small and friendly town with lots of character on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The hall of residence is right in the town centre and just a couple of minutes walk from the campus.
• At the Devonshire Campus in Buxton, you will find a small shop, travel agent, bistro and fine dining restaurant.

Accommodation

• University of Derby halls of residence are purpose built, self-contained flats with a choice of single, en-suite, premium en-suite or disabled rooms.
• They all have: on site 24 hour staff cover, security and CCTV; a coin operated laundry; a common room; broadband internet access; free internal phone calls.
• They are reasonably priced too. In 200–9 your room will cost £60–£87 per week, plus a non-refundable booking fee of £225, which covers your broadband, room contents insurance and access to the university network.
