History
- 1824 Bolton Mechanics Institute opened as the third in the UK.
- 1982 Bolton Institute.
- 1989 Bolton Institute incorporated as independent HEI.
- 1990 Granted taught degree awarding powers.
- 1994 Granted research degree awarding powers.
- 2005 Given the title, University of Bolton.
Location and Transport
- Bolton has excellent motorway and rail links to major cities.
- Liverpool and Manchester are within half an hour. The Lake District, West Pennine Moors and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, and the bright lights of Blackpool are just an hour away.
- Manchester airport is close by.
Accommodation
- We have two Halls of Residence, The Hollins and Orlando Village. Both are convenient for the university and the town centre.
- Together they provide 700 single study bedrooms, each well furnished and containing carpet, curtains, bed, desk, wardrobe, storage space, easy chair and washbasin. All hall places are offered on a self-catering basis.
- All rooms are wired for internet access. One-off connection charge of £50 per academic year with no charge for usage.
- Rooms cost £63 per week (including heating, lighting and hot water).
- Private sector rents in Bolton are competitive, and there is a range of accommodation available within walking distance of the University.
